Thats right all, Quake 3 Fortress is coming up from the cracks and the new Web-Based Server list can be found at Q3F. You need to check out the chat room #q3f on irc.enterthegame.com and see how there BOT is molding different #q3f rooms from other IRC network servers, like Undernet and EFNet, into one huge room. Diggin' around, I found this little article on 3D Action Planet. Here is a quote from the article:

There is no projected release date at this time.

Lack of support sends Strike Force over to Tribes
- Posted 1:31 PM By Squirre1
EMail News to a Friend  Printer Friendly Version    0 Comments | Add
The Strike Force team has posted a few items about the port to the Tribes2 engine and the latest post (as of this moment) is as follows.

The team has also decided to continue work on Strike Force for UT! Why? Because they want to make the public happy regardless of the lack of support. Here is the current plan.

- We will be redoing all the guns, skins and animations.... new arms and hands will be included.
- We will be fixing the current code so it works without having to change anything with UT.
- We will be working on all new in game sounds and music.
- We will get the bots working correctly and using all guns.

I have brought on a new model person that does commercial work. He is also the manager of 25 animators. They will be working on the new player models for Strike Force and doing motion capture for them if this is possible, not sure about it yet though.

Strike Force will push forward with Tribes 2 but will continue to be made for UT as well. So smile! =)
The Strike Force news page has all the info.

Minor Bugs
- More consistent closing of dialog boxes and pop-up screens when hitting Esc key.

EuroGamer.net did a nice article on a new feature in DirectX 8. None of the game manufactures have been using DirectPlay from the previous releases of DirectX. So Microsoft is adding in DirectPlay Voice which will give games real-time voice support without them having to develope their own software. It will be doing this at speeds of 64kbit/s down to 1.2kbit/s depending on the quality needed. This will mean that you will have the ability to use it over a dial-up connection and not choke the line for bandwidth. You can read the whole article here.

Will DNF port to Linux?
- Posted 2:05 PM By Squirre1
EMail News to a Friend  Printer Friendly Version    0 Comments | Add
Well by what George Broussard recently responded to a post on the 3D Realms forums which reveals the fact that DNF is unlikely to appear on Linux. Here's what he said on the subject:
"Linux DNF is not a priority for us. Not to shun the Linux community, but we have our hands full with the Windows version and that will be done.

I dount we will have the free time to port it ti Linux for fun, and to give away, and I doubt there is enough money to be made to warrant a commercial Linux version.

Those are just the realities of the situation."

I thought I have seen it all until now. This article was listed from a British Columbia news paper. It states that due to the violence and the realize of the game, under discretionary powers provided by the Motion Picture Act, which includes video games, Director of Film Classification Mary-Louise McCausland concluded that Soldier of Fortune is "an adult motion picture" because of its realistic and brutal depictions of violence against persons and animals." Now it is not a total ban but has been considered adult material which will remove it from rental and store shelfs. You can view the whole article here.

The Goldeneye MOD Team has been getting alot of email lately on a problem that some users of their MOD have been experiencing, here's the info:

We've been getting tons of mail about an error which goes something like:
"Could not load library C:SierraHalf-LifeGoldeneyecl_dllsclient.dll"

This is caused by one of three things:

- Your version of Half-Life is out of date. You can download the newest version at FilePlanet.
- Your version of Goldeneye is out of date. The most current version is Beta 1.5 and can be found on the Files Page.
- You did not delete your old Goldeneye folder before installing Beta 1.5. Go to your Half-Life root folder (usually c:sierrahalf-life) and delete the "goldeneye" folder, then reinstall Goldeneye 1.5.

Rod Fung, of Sierra Studios, posted a message on the Official SWAT 3 Message Board with a clarification on the story we posted earlier about the SWAT 3: Battle Plan being canceled. Here is what he had to say:
It's amazing how the wrong info can be spread so quickly.

Here is whats really happening. SWAT 3 Elite Edition is the same as Battle Plan...just a name change to better suit the product. You will be able to download the multiplayer upgrade, as well as the SWAT tool kit via the net for free (to those that currently own SWAT 3 CQB). additional levels will be avaialbe as well. It’s that simple.

A new boxed verion of the game (called Elite Edition) will be availabe as well which includes the original game, the MP upgrade, all the mod tools and new levels.

Hope this clears this up.

The see-through drivers that Riva was going to put out for its new AGP cards have been stopped. If you would like to see what the drivers were going to do, there are some movies available and Riva Station. Here is a e-mail that RivaStation received from asus on the subject.

Asus has decided to call back this driver.

However, since the See-Through utility can let end user to learn some idea of how 3D work. Engineer team also spent many effort on that, so we will release a Try-version with limited usage to promote this technology and let user to decide how it will be.

The official document will post soon.

I would have liked to have the drivers just for fun.

Game Not Over for AvP

EMail News to a Friend  Printer Friendly Version    0 Comments | Add
News was released a couple of days ago that the Source for AvP Gold will be released to the public. This now opens the ability to make MODs and addons for the game.
Here's a little bit of news for y'all: after listening to your many heartfelt pleas and discussing the matter both internally at Fox and also with our Rebellion chums, I am outrageously happy to present to you the original, the best, the only...SOURCE CODE FOR AVP GOOOOOOLD!!!!!

Seriously, we really do want to help out the fans who want to play around in the AvP sandpit so take it with our blessings and go do fun things with it, I look forward to seeing what people get up to.

Did you read the news about Rebellion buying up 2000AD the Great British megacomic that's home to Judge Dredd, Sam Slade, Johnny Alpha, Ro-Jaws, Rogue Trooper, Chopper, Halo Jones, Zenith, and a bunch of other totally cool characters from my formative years? Huge congrats to Jason, Chris et al and we look forward to what you guys will get up to with all that good stuff.

Also, now the 'official' word is out about Monolith's involvement with the sequel to AvP, I hope you're all excited about that and I'm sure I'll be talking to and hearing from people about that a lot more in the coming months. I think it's going to be a really cool title and that a lot of you will dig it deeply.
Hopefully one will be released real soon.

"Based on the actual geometry of the Bastille subway station in Paris, CTF-Bastille is highly realistc". Those were the words of the creator. "A complex new texture pack had to be created leaving this map with only the skybox using stock textures. Most of the textures are actually converted from photos of the station. I have yet to play this map but it sounds like it will be worth the download. You can get it here.
