Well, I already told you about the "Games of The Year" giveaway. Now, PC Gamer is giving away a copy of American McGee's Alice and Shogun: Total War. All you have to do is tell them who wrote Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. They are looking for the author's real name, not his pen name. All entries must be received by March 31, 2001. Eight lucky people will be chosen from the entries. All you have to do is send an email to PCG Contest with "Follow the White Rabbit" in the subject line and the answer to the question in the body.

The MWGL Needs Your Help!!!
We are slowly running out of space at our current gaming location. With the additional participants and hopefully continually growth of our LAN Gaming Parties, we recognize that our future lies in a different location.
If you know of a location that might fit our needs; your local church (Mojo-Jojo - we know where YOU worship and it is huge), a local civic group (Elks, VFW, Lion's Club, etc...), if you have contacts in a local school district for a gym or cafeteria, or a very rich relative with a huge basement -- please let us know. Send an email to Krogue and let me know if you can help.
Remember, the larger our group gets, the more people will be able to win prizes and more tournaments can be held.

WOW, the guys workin on the Infiltration MOD for UT are working on some new things for the 2.85 release, which is by the way almost complete. The have added virtual breathing, here is a little snip of what they had to say:First thing we've got going on is a new system implemented into Infiltration. Basically it's a visual breathing application that is directly proportional to your stamina level. It works with all weapons, but most noticeably are the sniper rifles. The breathing is setup to allow you to control it when necessary by holding down the Alt-Fire button, so you can take a more precise shot. It works beautifully, and subtly adds to the skill of each weapon. This will be a nice addition to an already awesome MOD. You can get more update information on the Infiltration Website.

The Backburner has put together a CS Strategy Guide. Its a nice little Strategy guide that you might want to check out. Here is a little snip:Nebula: If all else fails, sure, you can use an MP5, however, my preference lies in hiding behinds some crates preparing to leap out behind rushers and stab people cowardly in the back. Just think "If they ain’t looking, they’re fair game". Jump on over there and check it out and post a comment about what you think.

CSBots has put together a new tutorial on programming your bots for CS. Here is a little cut-n-paste job from their site:Now having all these weird and wonderful bots at your disposal is excellent, but let’s face it, wouldn’t you love to be able to make your own? Coding and playing against your own bot is a very satisfying feeling – just ask any of the bot authors out there. What I hope to do is give you the knowledge to be able to delve into the HL code and come out with a top-notch CS bot – and maybe even release it to the public. You can check out the full article here.

This is probably interesting news for anyone considering a new video card. Nvidia is starting to let out info on their new Geforce3 cards and Avault has some information on it and some of it's features. Here is a quick quote from the article:"The GeForce3 features more than 57 million transistors and the ability to perform more than 800 billion operations per second and 76 billion floating point operations per second. The GeForce3 GPU achieves 3.2 billion antialiased samples per second fill rate--more than four times the performance of the GeForce2 Ultra. As do all of the GeForce family products, GeForce3 drives resolutions and color depths of up to 2048x1536x32." If you think this is interesting head on over to Avault for the full article.

We at the MWGL would like to take a moment and thank all the participants who came to the last game day. The MWGL has grown steadily over the last 4 years, and with that growth our LAN game days have become more than we would have ever imagined in the beginning. What started out as just a couple of guys getting together and playing Warcraft II, has turned into an event where dozens of players from all over the K.C. area and out into the surrounding states can come hang out and share in the singular event that is a frag-fest. People who have not experienced the thrill and fun that is a LAN event will never comprehend why we spend the 18+ hours in a dark room playing computer games. But, for those of us that do experience it, we wouldn't miss them for anything.
Tell your friends how much fun you had. Talk it up at work and at school. We hope that come March 24th, you will be able to bring yourselves and others back to the MWGL to have another great time.
Once again, from all the members of the Mid-West Gaming League, THANK YOU and we'll see you in March.

If God truly loves me, he will allow Starsiege Tribes to make its current release date of March 29, 2001. This game looks awesome. I loved the first Tribes, but the sequel looks like it will blow all other clan based 1st person shooters, including the original out of the water. Check out Gamespot's full-featured previews and screenshots at Previews and Screenshots.
One of the coolest parts of the game is its built in web utilities. It includes a customizable web page for clans to set up within the game to add members and invite new members from within games. This is soooooo going to kick ass.

Right now is a good time to buy ram if you're lookin to upgrade. One of the better places I have found for quality ram is www.crucial.com. They have a nice selection with prices to fit many different budgets. For example, 256mb pc133 168-pin dims run from about $90 to $115 and last I checked, they were running a special with no shipping charges. You can jump straight to their ram page by clicking here. To top it all of, they are a division of Micron which means it's quality ram.

I was surfing the web, minding my own business when I came across the website for a game that I was actually looking foward to but forgot about. The game is Throne of Darkness and it just begs to be played at a game day due to the amount of people you can get in one game. Here is a quick clip about the multiplayer part of the game:" In Throne of Darkness' multiplayer mode, up to 35 simultaneous players vie for the mantle of Dark Warlord in a king-of-the-hill style competition. Through competition and cooperation, four clans of seven samurai challenge the Dark Warlord, his seven lieutenants, and his countless minions, all of which can be controlled by a human player. Once the Dark Warlord is defeated, the conquering team becomes the new warlord." The game was designed by a bunch of former Diablo 1 designers that now work at Click Entertainment For more info head on over to the site.

Lucas Arts announced today that they will be making another attempt at an RTS game. The game, which is to be called "Star Wars Battleground", is a joint effort with Ensemble Studios, the designers of Age of Empires. The game is supposed to "usher in a new phase in the evolution of the RTS game". For a little more on the collaboration, here's a clip:"From the first time I played Age of Empires, I knew someday LucasArts and Ensemble should work together to create the ultimate RTS franchise," says Simon Jeffery, president of LucasArts. "Gaming is evolving rapidly and fewer massively successful games are stumbled upon by accident. The market is more aware of what it wants, and consequently we are providing a marriage of superlative design, consummate technology, and an IP-based gaming universe with which most of the western world is familiar. In short, LucasArts very much views this as the birth of a market leading franchise" For a little more head straight to the press release. I seriously hope they get it right this time, I want to stop some Ewoks with an AT-AT.

nVidia Announces GeForce 3

In just a few weeks, and for the low low price of only $500 to $600, you will be able to purchase nVidia's newest graphis accelarator, the GeForce 3. Yeah, none of us will probably buy one right off the bat, but it does look like one sweet piece of hardware. Id Software used the GeForce 3 as its engine to showcase the upcoming DOOM release. The screenshots and video look spectactular. In addition, the release of the GeForce 3 will more than likely reduce the prices of the current GeForce 2 and Geforce 2 Ultra cards. This is defintely worth it. The current 32 meg GeForce 2 GTS's are currently as low as $150.00 and the GeForce 2 GTS's with 64 megs as low as $250.00 on Price Watch. So keep an eye out for these price drops. I know if the 64 meg cards drop under $200.00, I'll be the first one to whip out the credit card and order.
