Over the weekend eager gamers in Japan got their hands on the new PSP as it hit retail shelves. Only about 200,000 units where made available at launch which led to faithful gamers waiting up to 24 hours in 5 degree celsius weather just to be able to claim one for themselves. Only about 500,000 units are expected to reach shelves by the end of the holiday season.
With both Nintendo and Sony shipping their new portable game systems out in time for the holiday season, it will be interesting to see how things come out. However, limited number of units, and the fact the PSP will not be available in the United States until early next year, seems to give the Nintendo DS a healthy lead.
The PSP retails for 9,800 yen ($189), but has already been spotted on ebay for more then $500 by fans who can't seem to wait for the American launch.

Tough call.
This or the Nintendo DS? The dual screen of the NDS looks pretty cool, but
Playstation has a lock on some of the sweetest game titles.
Hmmmmm? Maybe both? #2 by EvilTekno on Wednesday, Dec 15 at 11:42 AM
I'm going for a DS myself, especially since they just announced their plans to
release hardware that will allow playback of mp3 and mpeg-4 files. Sweet. #3 by Squirre1 on Wednesday, Dec 22 at 7:55 AM
