IFPI Announces Copy Control Symbol for CD

Lo and behold, something that actually informs the consumer as to what they're buying. IFPI announced today the introduction of a new (although optional) logo that record companies may use to inform consumers that the CD they are buying incorporates some type of control copying technology.
The logo is available for use by record companies internationally, and is being announced in consultation with IFPI's national associations in 46 countries, and with music retailers worldwide. It could feature either on the artwork of the CD or as a sticker, and may be accompanied by additional information about the technology being used.
In a related story, the RIAA announces a $1 increase on the price of all CDs sold due to the increased expense of printing the new logo on labels (j/k). Being that there's no mandate, I'm not sure how the big media folks will be towards its introduction to the music you buy.
