Western Digital - Increasing Sizes, Shrinking Warranties

I couldn't believe it when I heard Maxtor was dropping their drive warranties to one year. Now it appears that on the heals of Western Digital announcing their new special edition 200GB drive (4x the cache), they too will be moving to a 1 year warranty on all drives, effective October 1. I haven't seen any update from Maxtor, but with Western Digital, you can at least buy an extended warranty to cover your drive for up to 3 years. Geez, guess they don't make enough profit off the drives, now they gotta go the way of Best Buy and offer you an extended warranty on everything they sell! Maybe they're planning on basing new lines of drives off of IBM technology and figured they'd crash and burn supporting anything over a years worth of warranty.
