As if it didn't look and run enough like a PC, now the Xbox is even getting official DivX support from Factor 5 and DivXNetworks. So what does that mean for your average gamer? Well, with these developmental tools, Xbox developers will be able to integrate DVD quality movies that are 7-10 times smaller than your standard MPEG-2 data stream, meaning more intermissions and storyline for you.Factor 5, the renowned gaming software development house, and DivXNetworks, Inc., the company that created the revolutionary patent-pending DivX video compression technology, today announced the release of the DivX for Xbox Software Development Kit (SDK). An easy-to-use tool, the DivX SDK allows Xbox developers to easily create DVD-quality cinematics at 1/10th the size of a DVD.
Factor 5, creators of the multimillion selling "Star Wars: Rogue Squadron" game franchise and the MusyX sound tools for multiple game platforms, previously partnered with DivXNetworks to create the popular DivX for Gamecube SDK. The new DivX for Xbox SDK includes a number of new features for the highest-quality in-game cinematics. Will be interesting to see what the developers actually end up doing with this, if anything.

Actually - DivX is currently being used in Enter the Matrix (PC, GCN and Xbox), a
THQ title upcoming for GCN, Warcraft III, Homeworld2 and Robin Hood: Defender
of the Crown.
