AIS Tracking

This is what I want to do, does anyone know where I should start, or if their is a program that already does this?

I want to type in a computer's serial or name, and have the next page (results) show my floor layout with the location identified of the computer.

Any ideas? Thanks for any input no matter how little you think it is!

Well, I could take my time and do it at work - especially since they are the ones who want it. What kind of code are we talking about (php, VB?) I was thinking that maybe Flash with action script might lead me in the right direction.

There are programs that will get the serial # of the computer as long as it is stored in the CMOS like with Dells and will also get the computers name, they can even tell you what programs are installed on there.

But this program wont tell you were the computer is located.

You talking about BGInfo? That is a cool little app! It outputs the data to MS database or SQL as well!

I would make it in PHP... Everything is going web now-adays and it will be accessible anywhere....

Yeah Warman, I think it is called BGInfo. I was using it at Sprint for A project I was working on.

OK, I am ready to roll!

I am using PHP/MySQL and the GD module. GD:: allows you to create and manipulate jpg and png files. with only 5 or 6 lines of code, you can load an image and have an x y coordinate printed on it! You can also draw lines, squares, circles, elipses, pents and other shapes. You can also manipulate colors, transparent colors, and text on the picture. There are many functions in the GD module, and if you dibble into any PHP I recommend you download GD:: and check it out.

If you need help with this, let me know, and I will post a short tutorial.
