Angry HELP!! Problems with parents

Just like Tek my friend and I are getting problems from our parents about going. We were planning to go together and crap but my mother thinks its a bad part of town. So she called my friends mom telling her all this BS and now my friends mom won't let him go either. If there is ANYTHING like info and stuff that would prove its okay to go I need it quick!

From driving through that part of town to get pizza and such I can say it's not that bad. It's actually more in the Merriam/Shawnee area than KC, so it's a pretty nice area. The road it is on in particular has a bunch of mom and pop type places where entire families work together. An example of this would be the "Checkered Flag Drive-In" (is that the name) right next door to the facility. A guy and his family run it and seem to have no issues with anything bad (plus they have really good burgers, fries, and shakes). My best suggestion would be that if they have any problems, take a short drive over there and check it out for themselves. If anything I think the area we are in has more of the small town feel than KC feel....

Bah... Its too late now. The decision is made that I cant attend it. Apparently the decision was on a whim 'cause she wouldn't listen to me. Oh well i guess ill have to unregister. Thx anyways.

Haven't we had a topic like this in the past?

This really isn't a bad area, I've lived there for a few years in the past. There is nothing to even remotly be worried about that I can think of.

I haven't been to this lan facility yet, but I'd tell your parents to go to 27th & VanBrunt then go to the lan and I'm sure you'd get to stay.

I have lived in the area and worked in the area for over 30 years and there isn't anything to worry about. As a parent and former police officer working that area she doesn't have a thing to worry about. Too bad she has that attitude and probably won't change her mind.

lol...i have gone to many mwgl lans in the past here....and i cant believe someone could come up with that this place is a "bad" place....they must live in a fancy neighborhood or something

They think just because it is on the Kansas Side that it is a bad part of town... They are thinking of an area 10 miles north or 10 miles east, but where the lan is held at is a great location..

Sounds like you already have been loved.

But hey, that's just my pov.

I must admit, when I saw the "Kansas City, KS" address for the location, I was a bit concerned, but I went to the LAN in February and found my concerns were unfounded and mostly due to a lack of education on the general geographical area. I have been away for a while but do plan on attending the September LAN. I would suggest to your parents to take a drive over there sometime and check it out for themselves.
