Radeon 7500 PCI problem quote:

I'm having a problem with a TV-out card. I bought a
Geforce 4 MX 440 w/ svideo out so I can watch avi's on my tv.
I have an old 333 system I was trying to turn it into my home
theater pc. I plugged the card in, but all I got was beep codes.
So I took it back. I bought a Radeon 7500 PCI (because I don't
have AGP on that box) with RCA tv-out. Same beep code.

I plugged the card into a 733 and it worked fine.
I upgraded the power supply on the 333 from a 250 to a 350
and still no good.

I talked to a couple of support guys and everyone says that I
need to upgrade my bios, but there is no upgrade because
the motherboard isn't supported anymore by DFI.

Any suggestions how I can get this card to work in the old 333?

Thanks,
pc_g0d

I need the make/model of your motherboard. and also what type of beep event did you get. What I mean by that is a solid beep or 3 beeps or something like that. I personally dont think you have a bios problem but I could give a better response if I get the Info I listed.

Is the system you were using (the 333) a system that you know worked before and just wouldn't work with either of the new video cards? Have you tried different PCI slots on the motherboard?

In case you do need it, this is your latest BIOS upgrade. I would recommend seeing if you can get it working without the upgrade, first.

That beep event corisponds with a video error. Try inserting the video card in and double check that it is seated correctly. If so dont screw it down. Plug your monitor in and see if it comes on. If it works then the problem is how the mother board sits in the case. Some cases have crooked motherboard trays and when you put a component in it unseats itself once you screw it down. I have had that before and with these newer cards that are larger.. it makes it somewhat harder to tell sometimes. If this helps screw it down and then push down on the card and you might feel it move back into place... plug monitor in and try again.

Hope this helps

The system is old. It's been running since 1997. I've been using a 16MB Banshee card in it forever. I pulled everything out of the case before I first posted to make sure the case wasn't interfering with how the card seats so that isn't the problem.

I talked to a friend of mine about this problem. He suggested I played with the video shadowing. That the old systems don't know how to handle anything over 16mb video cards. Anyone else ever heard of that?

Thanks,
pc_g0d

Yeah, I've heard of that. You can disable that in your BIOS. There are a couple other settings you can play with, as well. AGP aperture size, for one. Couple others I can't recall off-hand. I'll try to remember which ones they are and post back. Usually, though, I don't think they give you beep codes for that...not entirely sure, plus I'm really tired and my brain is a bit fried, at the moment.

Remember this is a PCI video card (not AGP). I'm going to try enabling the shadow video stuff this evening.

I'll post when I've tested it.

Thanks,

Sorry...had problems with my new Dog and had to take it to the vet, etc so didn't have time to try the settings. I should have some time tonight, hopefully, as long as my wife doesn't find more things for me to do!

I'll post tomorrow and let you guys know...thanks again for the help.

Tried all sorts of Video Shadowing (On and Off and different memory addresses) last night. Tried both PCI options (2.1 and concurrency). Tried VGA Palette Snoop.

No Luck.

Thanks again for the help guys.
