All,
I'm about to buy this Gateway M505X Laptop. I'm not a big Gateway fan, but they didn't make this laptop...only reselling it...and so is Gigabyte (not in the US though).
So, I'm just looking for opinions about this type of laptop.
I was originally looking at the Sager NP5680. I want to be able to play NWN on it and do basic things. I don't play FPS. I currently have a desktop with an AMD XP1600 on an ABIT NV7M with built in Nforce2 GPU that I currently use for everything. I can always through a new video card into this box or upgrade the processor to keep this one up to speed when I need it. But I can't do that with a laptop. The question really is, will this type of laptop suite my needs for the next couple of years?
It has the following specs:
quote: manufacturer Gateway

LCD screen type active matrix (TFT)

graphics/video chip ATI Radeon 9600 graphics
internal modem type 56K ITU V.92
sound hardware type 20-bit sound

It is $1600 at Office Depot and this week only there is a $200 mail in rebate. Therefore it totals $1400. The Sager is about $1600 and has a faster processor (P4 2.6) and it weighs alot more and has a sucky battery life. Though, I probably wont use it on battery that often (twice a month...though more battery life is nice and it would probably only be used to watch DVD's on a plane). Most of the time I'll probably be setting on the couch surfing the web or playing NWN.
Thanks for the input guys.
