This Weekend's event... quote:

Just wanted to leave my nooby 2 cents about this weekend's event. I am new to your LAN, and wanted to give my first impressions.

First and foremost, the temp wasn't good. I assume that was beyond your control. It was very hot. This brings me to my next comment, lack of communication. I understand that the MWGL guys all know each other. But if you want new people to come in and enjoy themselves, you need better communication about the event before and during it. Let people know what's up, have fun tournaments, give away door prizes. Do something. Half the people there looked bored. They were watching movies more than they were playing games.

Please don't get me wrong, I had some fun there. Got some great games of Wolf ET and UT2003 in. These games would have been better if the network had been a little more stable. Seemed to go down every hour.

Anywho, just thought if you wanted to get more people to come, I should let you know what a noob thinks. I wasn't dissapointed, and I will probably still come back, I just thought I would let you know how I thought it went. Thanks!!!

Schmo,

We definitely appreciate all input and feedback ... noob or not. I was unable to attend last weekend, but I will talk to the guys and see what issues arose.

I am sure part of the communication problems arose from a shortage of MwGL members being present. Many of us had schedule conflicts this weekend (weddings, vacations, work, etc...), and were unable to attend. I would guess that less than half our full membership was able to come. Even I was unable to come down from Iowa for this event. We always try and make sure everyone is comfortable and included in what is going on, and we will work even harder in the future on making sure everyone is.

In the past, we have always had great luck with the network at UniversaLan, so it is sad to hear that there were problems with stability. This was also the first event we have held there in such hot weather, so it is unfortunate to also hear that there were temperature issues. We will do everything we can to work out these types of issues with the host location for future events.

We are very grateful that you enjoyed your time at the MwGL LAN, even after these problems arose. We look forward to seeing you again in the future.

Thank You,

Kyle S.C. Vogel

I had a great time, I played mostly RvS and had a clan member from Chicago come down. I watched the movie only to say it was Bad Boys II and i hadnt seen it yet, if it might of been another movie i might not have seen it. It was hot in there, lol really hot, but all i got to say to that is i would rather be hot than cold. The network did go down every once and a while but i am cool with that cause i meet some new people who were very nice and i hope to lan with again, you can count on me coming back to the LAN.

I would like to apologize for the temperature issue.. It was beyond our control due to the location have some complications with its air conditioning.

In regard to the networking issue, Are you referencing the Connection to the internet or playing a game with someone internal.. If you are referencing internal. I was not aware of any issues nor did any show themselves to me since I maintain terminal windows to all our game servers and none of them have timed out. If you are referencing the internet, well it is a time warner connection which I have not had too much luck with in the past. We have issues with the connection every event.

If anyone has any more feedback, positive or negative, please let us know.. Let us know what you liked about the event so we can continue to do that and let us know what was negative so we can fix it...

Thank You,

I didn't notice the tempurature at all. I kept hearing everyone complain about it, wasn't sure why though. A much smaller event considering how the last couple have been, quite a bit more informal than the others but it was still good. Didn't notice the actual network go down too much, but the internet died fairly regular.

This has got to be the first event that I've actually seen more people playing warcraft than CS at any given point, That's good considering that the intent of this event was to move things away from being a "CS only League". Definatly a bit more variety from what I saw.

Next event we should get some Natural selection going, 2.0 is going to be out for it soon (Long before the next event) with huge performance fixes, I might even be able to figure that dedicated server thing and might be able to run one....

More inter-attendee communication would be good, so as people know when there are games starting up across the room of various games that never get played that could possibly be interesting.

More informal this time, but thats just fine with me.

I don't know how you couldn't notice the temp. It was HOT. I realize it was beyond your control. No biggie. Another thing though, on the communication, did you have internal game servers setup? No one communicated that to us noobs. Which games? This is the kinda info I would have liked to see. And yes, it was the internet connection, not intranet. That was fine.

Thanks for your responses.

Well, there was quite a bit of internal warcraft... some enemy territory... monkeystrike... seen quite a bit of quake going on, some tfc... All though I wasn't in the back. I imagine it was hotter back there. You just kinda got to watch everybody elses computer for games... a program like HLSW is great to see what kind of oddball (monkeystrike) HL mods are going on. Maybe an internal irc channel would be good, if thats possible. This next event is going to be pretty big though, I'd expect a lot more CS players.

I know that we can put together little tourneys ourselves, but I think you guys should do your part to keep them organized for us, because lite events are pretty boring, and mwgl admins aren't really helping out as far as I can tell, I know you can argue that lite events don't have tourneys, thats why its lite, but I think you should have them, either just make the difference in food, or just don't have lite and reguler.
