I noticed a couple new posts on the subject... then couldn't help but start researching it... so now I'm curious... what are *YOUR* thoughts on the big "leak"

And please folks... be adult. No need for petty flames and bickering. I'm genuinely interested in your thoughts. Personally from everything I have read this just doesn't add up.

It's sucks that the code got stolen and I'm sure that that has something to do with the pushback, but more than likely they were planning to delay the release anyway.

I love conspiracies and this smells of a conspiracy.

It would be great if the developers leaked it themselves just to use it as an excuse to push it back without getting bad press for pushing it back due to the fact that they didn't have it done and were not going to have it done on time. It would make them look like victims and allow them more time to finish their game without getting a bunch of bad press about their game.

That would be great.

My other problem with this is that why would a big company doing all of this work have their servers so close to the internet and unprotected? I would have figured that their developement servers would be so closely monitored and protected that no one would be able to even look at the server box without permission. That is why this is so strange.

That really got me down when i heard about the leak. I hope he's bluffing. Valve put a lot of effort into it. I may sound like a mommas boy for Valve but i have to say i respect them a lot.

I feel stupid i just posted a thread about the HL2 release date without even noticing this one.

Valve wasn't finished with the game, the "leak" is just a convienent excuse for them. They are lucky it happened or they would have had to admit they were no where near done with the game.

I would have been more upset with valve if they didn't spend time to rework code after it got stolen. Convienent excuse or not, the game that was taken is still playable. More time to polish wouldn't hurt anything either.

Lets clear up that the leaked sourcecode and the e3 playable demo are 2 different things... The leaked code is not playable but only shows the source...
