Angry Age 3 - What they are doing wrong! quote:

First off lemme say that Ensemble will have my money when this game is released. However, that said here is what they are doing wrong in this title.

I am sick and tired of sacrificing tactics and strategy for graphics. Why is it we settle for pretty pictures with no stuffing on the inside. Let me give you a contray example. Sid Meier has built the Civilization game from the ground up. It's his baby. He has had one philosphy when building sequels that it seems almost all other companies can learn from. 1/3 new, 1/3 improved and 1/3 tried and true! The Civ series has only gotten better. Civ3 is the 4th in the series and is better than all the others. (I know you're asking why is #3 the 4th in the series. If you wanna know ask in a different thread.) Anyway, His works keep getting better. He keeps pushing what a strategy game can be and do. CDV has made 2 games that both feature THOUSANDS of units. Thats rights kids ... you can have an army of THOUSANDS! Those of you who have played the Total War series also know these games have featured THOUSANDS of units. Why can't Ensemble?

Once again I look at the next installment of Age and it looks like a force of 25-50 will be average. As in the last one you max units will be near 300. Between all the peasants and trade units a person needs to be able to wage a continual war this will leave you wil around 150-200 units max. When Napolean met his first real resistance before he took Moscow the armies were huge: Napoleon's army consisted of 100,000 infantry, 28,000 cavalry and 590 guns. The Russian Kutuzov's army consisted of 72,000 regular infantry, 10,000 semi-trained militia, 17,000 cavalry, 7,000 Cossacks and 640 guns.

Can Ensemble hear that? Britain sent 25,000 troops to quell the American rebellion. Not a squad of 25. The fight for Moscow had over a 250,000 troops. Why is it that Ensemble thinks 250 is enough?

So, this will be another game of StarCraft. Here little kids find out which preset nation you can use to rush the enemy as fast as possible. And, thats another thing. Empire Earth came out when? How many years ago? It let you pick which civ advantages you wanted. Squirre1 likes the economic bonuses. Great, but I don't want them. I want my tanks to be powerful. Krogue thinks airpower is the way to go. Why should I be held back because the French lost Florida to the Spanish? Let all civs be vanilla and gimme a hundred or so points to pick and choose what I wil be.

Why is it so many games are just the same thing with new graphics? I already played that about 10 years ago. Sure it looks prettier now but is prettier worth $50?

Damnit ... I want more game if you're going to get more money! If I want pretty I'll download porn. I'm trying to save the world not win an art contest.
