HAHA... His config did not hit me until now... He has no Router like they said in their initial posts...

He has the cable modem and 2 switches... And he uses 1 for his connection and 2 friends and then he wants to put the second switch of of his second nic and use ICS going though his local machine...

If you remember his diagram from earlier..
Cable Modem = C
Switches are A and B

BLAH.. Nasty config man... GET A ROUTER..... It's do-able and not hard at all but I would say why. If anything, stick everyone behind you and say fuckem.

Right, but based on the model# that he provided us it is only a 5 port switch not a router, that was their error in the description and ours for not confirming the equiptment....

Product Description:
D-Link's DSS-5+ is a powerful 5 port 10/100Mbps desktop switch that is an ideal choice for small workgroups. The DSS-5+ allows users to simply plug any port to either a 10Mbps Ethernet or 100Mbps Fast Ethernet network for compatibility, convenience, and faster connection. The switch comes in a small compact size designed for easy installation and high performance. The DSS-5+ eliminates unnecessary traffic and relieves data congestion by delivering dedicated bandwidth for each of the five ports.

You could try setting up a DHCP on one of your computers, I think most windows have that.

You know if I never started this thread I never would have found out that the 'router' they kept telling me about was actually a switch. Boy I'm gonna give 'em grief on monday.

You were confused by Mat constantly calling it a router as was I. He was still calling it that at work today.

well just an update for the lot of ya with the help of anthos and scrub i it worked out. i bridged my NICs and am running one switch behind my computer and then my computer connects to the other switch and to the cable modem. i had every thing set up on my computer and tried to connect a client and it wouldnt work. so i tried a static ip for the client and that didnt work and when i was returning the clients net settings to autodetect it found the net and can find my lan games.

GravityBong does this mean that you go:
Cable Modem -> Switch -> your machine -> Switch -> other computers

So I can understand this better.

Man...my brain almost hurts from reading all of this. I understand what you did and why you did it. I originally kept multiple IPs from Comcast after I bought my first router (2 years ago) just in case I couldn't get it to do whatever I needed it to do behind the router. After a couple of months of paying the $5 per extra IP, I got rid of them and haven't looked back yet. I'd really suggest getting a cheap router (you can find them $30 - $50) or if you think you will EVER get wireless, then go for the wireless router. I didn't think I'd ever need wireless until I got a laptop at work and didn't want to drag a wire all over...so I sold my router and bought a wireless one. If you don't want to spend the money, but you have an old pc around (250mhz, etc) that you can put a second NIC in, there are lots of unix routers available to download. A friend of mine has an old pc (200mhz without a harddrive, 2 nic's and a floppy drive) that he boots off of a floppy disk and runs a router with a firewall that works great. Also, Internet Connection Sharing is ok, but I've had problems with it when it comes to gaming. I tried out quite a few other programs but ended up getting a router instead of messing with the ICS anymore.
