They have updated Unreal Tournament once again. The most recent release 4.36 will have the following fixes:
  • Fixed joystick button handling code (thanks Chris Carollo)
  • Hack fix for bad playerstart in CTF-Coret
  • Fixed crash for servers with more than 255 characters worth of server packages
  • Fixed problems with single player ladder than cropped up in 432
  • Server now report to clients whether or not they are password protected
  • Fixed incompatibility in ChallengeHUD that caused problem for some mods
  • In the editor, the "TextureLock" option should work 100% now
  • Fixed the editor crash that some people were getting when docking a browser and getting a crash when trying to restart the editor
  • Rewrote "UEditorEngine::polySelectMatchingBrush" because SHIFT+B was crashing at random times in the editor. Should be stable now.
  • Brush clipping was merging faces on the resulting brush in the editor
  • May have fixed the random "WinMain/message pump" crash in the editor
  • Pre-432 spectators not allowed to join 436 servers (because of incompatibility)
  • Hopefully they have not made any new wrinkles ironing out these bugs.

CPL And The Q3 1.17 Point Release
    - Posted 7:06 PM By Squirre1
EMail News to a Friend  Printer Friendly Version    0 Comments | Add
The people over at Challenge-US have asked Mike Wardell, the CPL Commissioner, about whether or not Quake3 Point Release 1.25 will be used over 1.17 depending on if it is released in the near future or not. Here is the small conversation:
CHUS: Mike, thanks for taking the time to read this. I remember an issue before Frag3 about the version of Quake3Test that was used. Version 1.08 was released about a month prior to the event and it was used instead of 1.07 for the tournament, although the change from 1.07 to 1.08 Q3Test wasn't that significant.

My question: If 1.25 comes out of beta and becomes final, would the CPL choose to use it instead of 1.17?

Mike: 1.25 is still 2-4 weeks away at best, probably longer. At this later stage of Q3, we need to give players more lead time than that for any new version. We're planning to use 1.17 barring any unexpected sudden releases.
Looks like this CPL event will squeak by with the 1.17 point release.

    Assault Bonus Pack 418 Released
    - Posted 7:56 PM By Squirre1
EMail News to a Friend  Printer Friendly Version    0 Comments | Add
I notice on UnrealCenter that Eavy has announced a new and improved version of the Assault Bonus Pack. Here is what he had to say about it:
It's done, here it is, the Assault Bonuspack Update. The code has more than doubled since last version, and importance of features has grown exponentially, it's a must-have upgrade for Assault. With the update, I've managed to pull off the impossible, making client-side enhancements through a server-side-only mutator. The package also includes two more custom maps worthy of becoming standard levels. It's available both as a patch for users of the last release and a full download for newbies who don't have the Assault Bonus Pack yet.
You can grab the new assault pack from here.

10 Games That Won't Make Christmas This Year
    - Posted 1:21 PM By Squirre1
EMail News to a Friend  Printer Friendly Version    0 Comments | Add
Stomped has put together an article of the top 10 most anticipated games. Unfortunately none of them will be released for Christmas. Here is a little snip of the article:
There are now less than six months before the next E3 begins in Los Angeles on May 17, 2001, so in honor of that occasion and also of the yuletide season, we thought it would be a good idea to take a look at 10 games that, six months ago, were announced as ready to be released at this time, but now won't make it under your Christmas tree. In fact, for some of these games, we might be back in the Los Angeles Convention Center six months from now and being told again, "This is going to come out before the end of the year."
You can find out what the games are and read the whole article here.

    LMSAssault 2.01 Released
    - Posted 7:21 PM By Squirre1
EMail News to a Friend  Printer Friendly Version    0 Comments | Add
LMSAssault 2.01 has been released for Unreal Tournament. Here is the discription directly from their site:
LMSAssault is a gametype modification for Unreal Tournament. It extends the gameplay of Assault to incorporate features of Last Man Standing. Each combatant has a fixed number of lives, and when these are gone, that combatant does not respawn, and must wait until the game is complete (Human players do respawn, but as spectators).

LMSAssault is based on LastAssault, a similar mod by Kevin 'Zaph' Burfitt, but adds full configuration features. The default number of lives for both attackers and defenders can be set, and can be over-ridden on a map-by-map basis using the LMSAssault.ini file within UnrealTournamentSystem.
Of all the game types for UT, Assault is one this is worth more and more. Check out this MOD.

    PlannerBot For UT Released
    - Posted 7:33 PM By Squirre1
EMail News to a Friend  Printer Friendly Version    0 Comments | Add
PlannerBot is a whole new leap in AI developement that was brought about as an undergraduate project. From this, Richard Antecki and Daniel Arena have released an awesome MOD for you UT fans out there. Here is a little breakdown on what is does:
  • Implemented as an Unreal Tournament modification, encompassing a completely new artificial intelligence system, and a new game-type.
  • Agents generate goals based on their current state and the state of the game world, and maintain plans based on the actions required to complete these goals. Agents can have their current actions interrupted by new goals multiple times and still remember to complete original tasks.
  • Agents possess mood which affects their decisions in interesting ways- a scared agent may flee from combat, an angry agent may instigate new combat, a happy agent may try and remain close to teammates for assistance.
  • Agents take into account their past experiences with other game entities when making decisions. Agents share their attitudes with allies - attacking an agent will affect the mood and attitude of all of that agent's affiliates. This leads to very interesting, subtle interactions. For example, an agent may build up a grudge against a single player over time and eventually devote all of their energy to hunting that player down, at the expense of their team goals or personal safety.
  • You can read more about it and see some screenshots at the PlannerBot WebSite.
