Krogue Very Very Sad!!!!

Well, I got it. I waited and I waited. I read all the previews and reviews. I downloaded the movies and looked at all the screenshots. I thought that my weekend would be filled with the unexplainable joy of me and 63 other gamers playing in one huge arena of death.

I WAS WRONG!

Tribes 2 is the ultimate game of the year .... IF you have a 1.4 Gig Processor and a 64 Meg GeForce 2, and an OC-3 . If you don't have all of these things, don't buy it. Squirre1 and I both went through the arduous process of updating every driver just to get the damn thing to run. After that, you find out that nothing less than a GeForce will give you the visual effects that are proclaimed on the box and in the reviews. And, once you are in game (if you can find a server that is up), the massive amount of players just made my, less than 1 gig, system choke. Maybe in a few months when my system gets updated, I will jump back into a game and try it out again, but until then, anyone need a shiny new coaster?

INF 2.86 Update For UT
- Posted 5:07 PM By Squirre1
EMail News to a Friend  Printer Friendly Version    0 Comments | Add
Whew, it has been so long on posting news I almost forgot what the interface was like. But anyway, The Infiltration team after their most recent release 2.85.3 had this to say about the upcoming 2.86:
"Now with our latest 2.85.3 version out in circulation, we're ready to discuss what's coming up in a 2.86 patch release. If you click your way to the Infiltration website, you can grab all the info on what's planned, from new weapons to new options and a collection of bug fixes. Also discussed are our plans after 2.86 including new game modes. So head on over to get all that and a free shameless Inf wallpaper."
I caught this while scanning over to UnrealCenter.

Well, the rumors you have heard are true. The MWGL Unreal Tournament Team Deathmatch Squad has won a game. On Tuesday, the MWGL entered into battle against the Disciples of Confuzion.

And, although the MWGL squad was without the amazing skills and cunning tactical mind of this particular player, they were still shockingly able to devise an upset against their foes. The first game was won by a score of 106 - 65. Probably the coolest part of this game was the fact that the server they were playing on had some kind of IRC bot that sent a blow by blow report back to the IRC chat room we were in. Those of us unable to participate could watch as the two teams engaged in deadly combat.

Unfortunately, that server started acting goofy, so the teams had to switch over to another server. And, although we were unable to track that game, the MWGl still arose victorious from the UT TDM heap. That game ended at MWGL 150 to DoC 120.

So, to recap. MWGL WINS UT TDM league game with a score of 256 to 185.

Our next currently scheduled game is our CTF match on Monday night. stop by the MWGL IRC chat room (#mwgl)to check on start time.

MoJo_JoJo Gets Physically Aroused

Or, at least he will. Especially when the MWGL's most devoted Diablo 2 player finds out that Blizzard Entertainment has opened beta signups for the Diablo 2 expansion pack Lord of Destruction. Hurry up and head on over MoJo_JoJo and get registered. And remember, if you don't tell your wife about this, you can use her personal information and email address to sign up twice.

And, for the rest of you, if you get to be one of the beta testers, and MoJo_JoJo doesn't, you can flaunt it at the next gameday. i know that's what motivates me.

More Cool Diablo Stuff

To continue with the Diablo 2 related news, GameSpy Daily has a short article with a link to a screenshot of the new increased stash size. Along with the new stash size, you can also see some new items you will find in the game in the stash. Looking closely at the screenshot does make me curious of a couple things though. For instance what are the Roman numerals above the sword and shield in the inventory screen for? Could it be that you can actually have the ability to have a primary and secondary weapon/loadout you can switch between at the push of a button? Now that would be a great addition to the game. Think of it, when you're far away from a creature you hit a button to change to a bow and then as the creature advances, you hit the button again to jump back to your sword and shield. Hopefully someone will be selected for the Beta and find out.

Normally I don't condone stick figure violence, but while I was browsing the web earlier today when I found a link on Gaming News Network for this cool Macromedia Flash video, which I think is called XiaoXaio No. 3. They only had a brief description, but here is what they said about it:
"Think Matrix, Jackie Chan and every other kung foo movie in one flash video!! It rocks!"
I know it's not game related, but it's still pretty cool. What are you waiting for, go check it out here now and enjoy watching all the stick figure bodies pile up.

New Diablo 2 Update Released
- Posted 8:42 PM By Krogue
EMail News to a Friend  Printer Friendly Version    0 Comments | Add
Blizzard released update 1.06 today for Diablo 2. The official release notes from Blizzard are below:
Changes in the v1.06 Patch (Includes previous fixes)

Improvements
Updated Battle.net's Terms of Service agreement. It can now be accessed without having to create a new account.
Further optimized client to server communication.
Fixed copy-protection for various CD, DVD and CD-R drives.
The Diablo II Realms now scan characters for duplicate items. If a player is found to have more than one of the same item, the duplicate items will be deleted leaving just one of that item.

Common Questions:

Q: Why have some of my items of a certain type vanished?
A: Character files were scanned for duplicated items. All duplicate items but one were deleted.

Q: What items were selected for deletion?
A: All rare and unique items were scanned for duplicates.

Q. What constitutes a duplicate item?
A. Any item that was generated by an exploit which created an exact copy of another item.

Q: Why did Blizzard Entertainment only delete some of the dupes, and not every dupe?
A: Blizzard Entertainment wants to maintain an enjoyable and balanced play experience for every user. To that end, we removed all but one duplicate item. We're making an effort to protect those players that legitimately traded for those items.

Q: Are all methods of duping stopped?
A: All known methods of duping have been fixed. We will continue to monitor the Diablo II realms for duplication exploits and fix them as needed.

Q: Where can I report hacks or exploits?
A: You can send your reports to hacks@blizzard.com.
You can get the update by logging into the servers or you can get it from the Blizzard site at Update Information.

MoreGaming.com is reporting a bunch of activity about the lawsuit filed by the families of several victims in the Columbine massacre. They are seeking $5 billion in punitive damages from 25 entertainment companies to include id Software. CEO of id Software, Todd Hollenshead, stated that the suit was nearly identical to a similar lawsuit filed as a result of the Paducah, KY high school shooting which was dismissed last April. In the constant onslaught that is new computer hardware, it's always good to get as much information as possible before you go make your purchase. This is extremely true in the video card market where it seems as if new cards come out weekly. To help all of us hard working people out, Gamespot has put up a nice article on their hands on with the new versions of the Geforce 2 cards that Nvidia is releasing. So go read the article here before you part with your hard earned money. Me, I think I'll save my money up till next fall when I can barely manage to afford the then three generations out of date GeForce 7 :)

    Quake Gets Fragged at CPL
    - Posted 11:00 AM By WaRMaN
EMail News to a Friend  Printer Friendly Version    0 Comments | Add
The Cyberathlete Professional League (CPL) has swapped Quake for the more popular Half-Life mod Counter-Strike. This is disturbing news to me since on-line gaming was defined by Quake. Counter-Strike has gained a big standing in the gaming world, but can it attract big crowds to events like Quake has always done? I now play CS more than Quake, because it puts me in with a group of serious players that are dedicated to a "team effort". Quake, on the other hand, is a game that makes the single player shine. Yes there are team-mods such as CTF and Clan Arena, but have YOU played in one at an event?

Now moving on to events, which game is more likely to bring the players? If you're a Quake player, you are apt to bring yourself or a couple of friends to your favorite event, such as - lets say MWGL! Counter-Strike, on the other hand, demands that you bring a team, which might not be easy for most. Once you take in to account that the day has to be open for all of your team, and the cost of dragging them to the event can be expensive, it could cause a no-show for the team. This doesn't seem to affect local LANs, but it could seriously affect the big tourneys, such as "The Frag", which pulls 600+ "professionals" to Dallas TX every year.

This decision is a risky one in my opinion, but lets see if the Counter-Strike players can prove me wrong. I am not going to try to compare the two games and say which is better than the other, but I am interested in your opinions! Post your comments to this post, and lets see how our community feels.

    Tom's Review Of The GeForce3
    - Posted 10:40 AM By Squirre1
EMail News to a Friend  Printer Friendly Version    0 Comments | Add
Tom's Hardware has finally gotten a review of the GeForce3 up. It seems to be a little more in favor of the card then all the other reviews, but he also lists the price as $400 not $500+ like everyone else. Here is a little quote of relism right from the article:
"The ones of you who don't want to spend 400 bucks on a graphics card have no reason to feel bad though. Your current 3D-card will most certainly be able to run the 3D-games of the next 6-12 months just fine, especially if it has a GeForce, GeForce2 or Radeon based architecture and thus T&L."
By the article you only notice the frame increases at the high screen sizes, I myself stay at 800x600 and call it good.

I say save your money now and get the GeForce2 GTS and wait for the next NVidia card to come out so the 3's prices drop. But hey, I am a lowly ol' news poster. You can check out the whole article here.

The makers of the mod "Kill the King," fat mods, has come up with a great game where you first, grab the crown and become Elvis, then try to stay alive while getting rewards for doing so.
