    TFC Addon-Pak Released
    - Posted 1:53 PM By Squirre1
EMail News to a Friend  Printer Friendly Version    0 Comments | Add
PlayingKarrde has release a Team Fortress Classic Addon-Pak. It adds new models, weapons, sounds and sprites. Here is what the author had to say about it:
I didn't create the things you see in this pak. What I did for the player models was re-animate them using the TFC animations and re-skin them with custom colours. I'll let you try and work out where the other things are from. There are also a few easter eggs hidden away in there. See if you can find them.
You can download this addition to an already awesome MOD here.

    Endangered Species Engine Update
    - Posted 6:15 PM By Squirre1
EMail News to a Friend  Printer Friendly Version    0 Comments | Add
They have updated the Action Forms with alot of new information about the engine that will be used in an upcoming Duke influenced game, Duke Nukem: Endangered Species. The engine is looking sweet and you can see the the images they are putting alot of work into it. Check out what they have to say about it:
Our newest engine combines terrain renderer code capable of processing huge outdoor areas, like seen in Carnivores series, with absolutely new indoor renderer. This engine can be used for development of purely 'corridor' style games; terrain-only based projects as well as fully featured indoor/outdoor titles. The last one is the most important usage of our engine, where vast outdoor areas are combined with huge complex structures that can be placed both upon terrain and underground.

There are no limitations on complexity of structures on the map. In fact, designer can build almost everything he wants both on terrain and below the ground. The only limitation is speed. We worked really hard to make our engine work exceptionally fast. It clips off underground structures when player is on terrain and it also clips off terrain if player is inside the building. The engine renders only visible part of terrain when looking at it through the window for example. It was not an easy task to accomplish, because terrain and corridor engines are absolutely independent. Moreover, in our new engine terrain is not represented as a set of polygons, like in some other games which combine indoor and outdoor environments. Therefore, our latest technology allows you to create interactive world of such size and complexity as no other does.

    RTS for Q3A?
    - Posted 9:39 AM By Squirre1
EMail News to a Friend  Printer Friendly Version    0 Comments | Add
First, for those of you that don't know RTS stands for Real Time Stradegy. Second, RTS for a FPS(First person Shooter), who thought of that crazy idea. Well from there site, here is a breakdown of how it works:
The idea behind RTS Quake is to add the resource gathering and unit upgrading concepts found in games like Warcraft to Quake 3 CTF. Instead of all of the players on both teams being fighters, some members of each team are weak laborers whose job it is to collect money, bring it back to a collection point, and build and repair buildings. The combat portion of the team begins as simple fighters with short range weapons, but more options become available as the workers gather more money. Team communication is important, so that the workers know what upgrade goal(s) the team is working toward next. As the game progresses, each team will have different capabilities based on which upgrades their workers have made.
This looks like a sweet MOD that will be alot of fun to play. You can download the most recent version, 1.0.2, and some of the other crazy MODs this group has created here.

As it says on a post from the MSXBox Site, Duke Nukem Forever is just one of the many releases that are charted for the X-Box. Here is a little snip of the article:
"According to CTW Trade Mag, 3D Realms has confirmed earlier this week that the much delayed Duke Nukem Forever will be coming to Microsoft's Xbox Console. Ongoing comments by co-owners Scott Miller and George Broussard have indicated their strong interest in Xbox development in the past. This announcement may help them increase the potential of this popular franchise.

Update - Thanks to Steve for sending word from 3D Realm's Scott Miller that he hasn't actually confirmed development, but is only interested at this point. CTW was mistaken in jumping the gun, and we bit the bullet."

WFA 2.0 For Q3 To Be Released Sat.
    - Posted 2:58 AM By Squirre1
EMail News to a Friend  Printer Friendly Version    0 Comments | Add
With a Weapons Factory Arena wire coming down the pipe, they say version 2.0 will be released this Saturday. Here is the message:
A lot of testing has gone on as the testing servers were packed almost every night. Testers have been trying out the new spraypaint logo technology. Users can spray custom decals on the walls of WFA maps now ala Half Life. If your WFA clan wants a logo included, submit your 32x32 graphic logo before Thursday. We also are introducing 150+ wav Taunt wav files to compliment the team oriented wav files. These are kickass clips from your favorite movies and TV characters. If you find them distracting, you can mute these out easily. Bot protection has been included in the latest version, so hopefully that will quell the cries of "bot" on the public servers.

Most importantly, many new maps are being added, and we were very critical and thoroughly tested all new map submissions, and also took time to re-evaluate all the official Maps in WFA. Many were found lacking and have been cut. The 16 maps (8 new official maps!) that are released with WFA 2.0 are very high quality maps, much better than the first generation maps (some of which have been retired, thankfully). So, it will be necessary to upgrade to 2.0 as soon as possible. Don't worry, its been through rigorous testing and 8 beta versions. I want to thank the WFA Mapping Committee and all the beta testers that have made WFA 2.0 the best it can be. To get a sneak peek of the new maps, visit http://www.wfamaps.com.

There are tons of new graphics tweaks, like turret 'nades that are team colored, a new less laggy hyperblaster effect, and a new weapon for the engineer. This rail-like weapon repairs teammates armor and when used against the enemy, its armor piercing properties take off 20 health per shot. The weapons in WFA v2.0 overall do more damage. So the carnage is even more visceral. The HUD is still 100% customizable in WFA, and there are tons of other choices you can make, like turning off smoke trails on rockets to turning off mega chaingun trails.
Man that was hell of a news post. Sorry for running it so long.

    LaserTag 2.0 For RS/UO Delayed

LaserTag 2.0, a very original MOD for Rogue Spear/Urban Ops has been delayed. They are not stuck or anything like that, they are just waiting for the Map Plug-ins as listed in the previous news to be released. With that release, they will be able to put out some new maps with their MOD. So that means no LaserTag 2.0 until at least late November.

Hmm, you may ask. Remember playing all the kewl maps created for Duke Nukem by people that had way to much time on their hands. Well now you can enjoy those on Half-Life as well. The software is still a "(very) Beta-version" so consider yourself warned, but you could still have alot of fun with it. For all the full details you can check out the Duke Nukem goes Half-Life Website. I can't wait to play the Giant House Map.

Quake 3 Fortress beta 1F is slated to be released this Saturday. Here is a little bit of information on what will be in this release:
  • Five new original maps; The Causeway, SpamTech, Last Resort, GotDuck and King of the Castle
  • Completely new menu graphics, animations and music
  • Various new special effects such as new HE Charge, Pulse Grenade, Flamethrower and explosions plus lots of new miscellaneous artwork (plus controls for people to turn these features off for lower spec systems)
  • Over fifty gameplay tweaks and bugs fixed. Gameplay especialy has been the main focus for our playtesting team, who have analysed every aspect of the game's class and weapon balance. This was key to ensuring that both clan play and public gaming was enjoyable and not dominated by 2-3 classes
  • Over 70 new audio FX for weapons, players, ambience, music, special fx and radio comms
  • More intensive anti-cheat protection
  • Experimental menu driven radio comms system (this has actualy been around since earlier versions, but we've firmed up it's use now)
  • Well with this being the 7th release of the beta, I am hoping it will not be to long before we have a "Stable" release.

    HL 1.1.0.4 Release Coming

I caught a glimpse over at FortressCenter that Valve was looking to release another patch for Half-Life. Here is the information as listed on their site:
Half-life 1.1.0.4 will be released early next week. The update contains three new Team Fortress scenarios, adjustments on two TF classes, in addition to a variety of new features and fixes.

  • New TF Scenarios:

    - Avanti
Avanti challenges the offensive team to advance their flag to three successive capture points and conclude their run in the village cathedral, while the defense attempts to stall their efforts until time runs off the clock. The scenario takes place on the streets of an Italian village, with a wide variety of open spaces combined with tight corners and sniping positions.

    - Flag Run
Flag Run requires cooperative teamplay as some units attempt to retrieve their flags from the enemy's base while other units ward off the opposing team's attempts to the same. Designed by Dave he scenario includes large, wide-open spaces in the center of the map with intricate base structures on either end.

    - Casbah
Like Flag Run, Casbah challenges the opposing teams to guard and defend captured flags as they fight to retrieve their flags from enemy territory. Designed by Dave Johnston (cs_cbble, de_dust), Casbah promotes extremely fast-paced battles that can realize sharp momentum changes in no time at all.

  • New features and fixes include:

    - All map resources can be downloaded from the game server
    - Counter-Strike proxy cheat fixed
    - Linux security issue resolved
    - Pyro's burn damage increased
    - Heavy Weapons Guy's chaingun damage reduced
  • This looks like just a minor update patch but has some nice added features you may want to check out.

    MWGL Site Info

The site will be relocating to a faster connection in the near future. Either CaveNetworks, a New up and coming Hosting service, has graciously offered to allow us to colocate a server at their new facilities, or Media & Games Online Network better known for their series of Centers, ex. UnrealCenter, HLCenter, and Q3Center just to name a few. With either of the moves a server upgrade will also take place.

Don't forget to use our fairly new comment posting system "[Post a Comment]", add questions or comments about the site to the MWGL Forums, or voice your opinion on the MWGL Polls.

Thanks again for making the MWGL as successful as we have gotten in such a short time.

    Sincerely Squirre1

New HL Patch Takes A Step Back

An email has been sent out to server admins about some of the problems that are cropping up in the most recent patch of Half-Life. Here is the email describing the issues:
Several issues with HL 1104 have come to our attention and we wanted to make sure that the server admins know what steps we're taking to address the known issues. First, due to a mix-up with our version control software (totally our fault), we had a regression sneak into this build with respect to the status command. The code that printed out the user's IP address was inadvertently omitted from the 1104 source base. We'll be addressing this in a server-only release in the next week or so. Note that we're going to recheck all of the combined code as we've had unconfirmed reports of at least two other issues that appear to be regressions in the code base.
Well you can probably expect another patch real soon to fix these problems.

    Halo Update

Well just when you think Halo is never going to be release, they put out another update on its status. This information is off of the Halo Site. Here is a clip of the update:
    - We're nailing down the final elements of the game - lists of characters, weapons, net game types and options. The weapon list is pretty extensive; players should have fun finding their favorites. Things are still uncertain enough that giving out an actual number would be premature, but I think it's safe to say you'll have a nice friendly double-digit figure when you add them all up. And those are just the ones players can use.
I hope this hyped release will not be a dud, I doubt it will.
