EverQuest 2 Interview

EMail News to a Friend  Printer Friendly Version    0 Comments | Add
Alot of you have probably heard the rumors, and maybe even seen a few of the screenshots floating around of Sony Online's upcoming EverQuest II (EverCrack to those who have ever started playing the game). Well, the fine folks at GameSpot has a lengthy interview with Bill Trost, Lead Designer for the upcoming title. Word:

GS: EverQuest has always been a very time-consuming game, which is part of what makes it very intimidating for a lot of new players. The sequel will undoubtedly try to appeal to hard-core EverQuest fans, but what will it do to make the online role-playing experience more accessible to new players?

BT: We are taking quite a few steps to minimize "downtime" and to ensure that however long players have, they are capable of jumping in the game and making measurable progress. I really do not want to get into the specifics of that at this time but players should rest assured that the design team has been paying attention for the last three years, and we think we have figured some things out. While time will still be the most measurable investment a player will be asked to make in EverQuest II, we feel it is not in anyone's best interest for the game systems to demand long consecutive hours of play.
Some of the concepts/ideas aren't groundbreaking, but being that EverQuest has been around for over three years now, they must know how to do a few things right.

Nvidia NV30 Due in August?
- Posted 7:23 AM By Kagato
EMail News to a Friend  Printer Friendly Version    0 Comments | Add
While Jen-Hsun Huang, Nvidia CEO, did not mention the chip by name, it was noted that they will be releasing a new chip in august. Not alot of info on the new toy, but they do have this to say:
The new chip will be manufactured on Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.'s latest 0.13-micron manufacturing process, Huang said. Huang did not reveal the name or specific features of the chip, but did say it was a fundamentally new architecture from the GeForce 4 Titanium introduced earlier this year.
Guess we'll have to see what they have in store for gamers this time around. I imagine more information will become available as the NDAs expire.

Nvidia WinXP Refresh Rate Tool

EMail News to a Friend  Printer Friendly Version    0 Comments | Add
A great deal of you have probably switched you're main gaming rig over to Windows XP, or at least dual-boot it with Win98. One annoyance you may have found with XP is in the way the refresh rates in DirectX and OpenGL games defaults to 60hz. This can be changed, but requires a bit of modification to the registry. Fortunately some blokes have sat down and started work on a new tool that allows you to tweak the refresh rates to take better advantage of your monitors/LCDs capabilites. The program is still in it's infancy, so be sure to check the NVRefreshTool homepage as updates come on a nearly daily basis as they hammer out bugs in the software.

    EverQuest II

You like the MMORPG's don't you? I thought you did. GameSpot has the latest scoop of Sony Online's 'in the works' sequel to the ever popular MMORPG EverQuest, EverQuest II. Here's a crispy, crunchity, peanut buttery tidbit:
Sony Online Entertainment has announced EverQuest II, the upcoming sequel to its groundbreaking massively multiplayer online role-playing game EverQuest. The new game will improve on its predecessor with a completely new 3D engine, new spells, quests, and events, and the option for characters to own real estate and command ships. It will also include a new branching character class structure, more customization options, and a new nonconfrontational character advancement system for new classes such as the tradesman.

EverQuest II will be set in Norrath, the gameworld featured in the original game, but it will take place during the Age of Destiny, a period in the future of the original game's gameworld. The game engine will support significantly more detailed environments and advanced graphics features such as per pixel lighting, dynamic environment mapping, and a programmable surface shader system. In addition, the game will have completely new combat, spell, and skill systems and a revised quest system.
I'm not a big fan of the MMORPGs, however if that floats your boat, check it out.

Well, it's official! Activision made the announcement today that it has signed a deal with id Software to publish DOOM III, and also show the game off at this year's E3. "We are excited to continue our successful and long-standing relationship with id," said Larry Goldberg, executive vice president, Activision Worldwide Studios. "I'm sure that id fans and action gamers alike share our anticipation for the latest incarnation of DOOM, which is one of the most important franchises in PC gaming history. There is no doubt that DOOM III will be at the top of every gamer's most wanted list." I wonder how long it will take before game shops start taking pre-orders for the title, haha.

    Tribes 2 PS2 Interview
    - Posted 3:08 PM By Kagato
EMail News to a Friend  Printer Friendly Version    0 Comments | Add
In preparation for the upcoming release of Tribes 2 for the PS2, HomeLan has posted an interview with Chris Mahnken of Inevitable Entertainment. Word:
HomeLAN - How easy will the game be handled by the player using the standard PS2 controller?

Chris Mahnken - A lot of work has gone into making the game easy to pick up and control. That said, you’re going to look like a drunk for at least the first 30 seconds if you’ve never played a shooter on a console before. If you’ve played Half-Life or Goldeneye before you should pick it up quite quickly. We have some aids to help with aim that you can turn on or off. Servers can be configured to allow or prohibit the playing aids.
It's a shame that this title may not do well for the PS2 in sales though, after all, the PC release was so chock full of bugs, who'd trust another release?

    Metroid Prime Preview

EMail News to a Friend  Printer Friendly Version    0 Comments | Add
If ever there was single game which gave reason to owning a Nintendo Gamecube, this would be it!. The folks over at GameSpy have a preview of the upcoming NGC title Metroid Prime. That's right folks, Samus is back and ready to kick some more Metroid tail:
The action takes place in a universe far removed from our own. Space pirates tear apart a laboratory on a planet known only as SR 388, and smuggle out a strange lifeform called "Metroid." Later on, they rub their mandibles with glee as they realize this creature holds massive destructive powers, so they attempt to harness them. The understandably concerned federation of the galaxy finds out about these machinations, very soon after their most important planet, Zebes, is attacked. Fending off the pirates, the feds quickly employ the services of Samus Aran, a female bounty hunter, with a vast array of topnotch weaponry, and a fabulous jumping animation. She kicks considerable amounts of space pirate ass, and beats down the pirate Mother Brain, but the pirate lieutenants escape with the Metroid, speed off from Zebes, and ready themselves for a game sequel.
You can also check out the 10 new screenshots they have posted at the end of the article. Good stuff for sure, can't wait for this title to hit stores.

According to news on the official Dungeon Siege homepage, a new patch as well as the Dungeon Siege Tool Kit (game editor) are due out this Friday (May 10th). Here's the scoop:
Our scheduled date for releasing the beta of the v1.1 update is this Friday, May 10th, barring unforeseen circumstances. We will keep you updated on the progress of the beta as Friday draws closer; be sure to stay tuned to DungeonSiege.com for more information.

The other project that is drawing close to release is the Dungeon Siege Tool Kit. Currently, the DSTK consists of several components: the Siege Editor, Siege University, and a variety of supporting tools and documentation. We are planning on releasing the first version of the Siege Editor, as well as "Siege U 100" (the first set of tutorials for SE), on this Friday, May 10th, as well. For further information about the DSTK and its components, be sure to check out the "Tool Kit" link to the left.
A patch may do wonders for this game, there seems to be alot of issues when playing local LAN games that'll hopefully get fixed.

    James Bond 007: Nightfire Announced
    - Posted 9:26 AM By Anthos
EMail News to a Friend  Printer Friendly Version    0 Comments | Add
From the same folks that are bringing you Counter-Strike: Condition Zero comes a thrilling new 007 game for all platforms (PC/X-box/PS2/GameCube). Gearbox Software will be developing the PC version. Here's a snip from EA:
NightFire will feature an original single player storyline - written exclusively for the game and borrowing from the rich 007-legacy that spans 40 years. As Bond, players will operate in the snow capped Austrian Alps and the far reaches of outer space as well as underwater in the depths of the South Pacific to defeat the evil criminal mastermind Rafael Drake, the popular head of a supposedly benign environmental organization who secretly is bent on world domination.

NightFire will offer a deep and rich gameplay experience that epitomizes the Bond universe. The game is primarily seen through a fast-paced, first person perspective. The camera will switch to a dynamic third person perspective for particular interactive game mechanics or to show off heroic Bond moments. NightFire will feature a large variety of missions filled with furious action and stealth, gorgeous women exotic locales, and sophisticated spy-craft gadgetry that Bond fans expect. The console versions will offer action packed driving experiences with a host of exotic vehicles to bring the best Bond-like stunts to life.
Exciting stuff! Look for the game late this year. In the meantime, check out the full press release.

Gigex tomorrow will premiere the Jedi Knight 2 demo from LucasArts, which will contain a new level not found in the retail version of the game. An early version was originally shown at E3 2001. The development team at Raven added more dialogue, cutscenes and textures and doubled the size of the map.
Yay! Even more stormtroopers to forcepull hundreds of feet into the air, to go crashing to their deaths!

    Unreal Episode II

The original Unreal set the night on fire when it first came out, and Infogrames is betting that the sequel will do the same. Unlike Unreal Tournament’s fully deathmatch-based gameplay, Unreal Episode II will feature 10 unique worlds and a slew of story-based missions. Between the levels, you’ll be able to return to an orbiting ship where you can talk to other crew members and restock on weapons and ammo. If Episode II is nearly as groundbreaking as the original, the new Unreal should have id Software quaking in its boots.

LucasArts, makers of the ever popular JK2, announced their creation of Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb. Here's what this new game features courtesy of GameSpot:
The new game will feature the whip-cracking archeologist hero Indiana Jones, who must explore 10 different levels that represent areas from all over the world, including an ancient European castle and a secluded fortress in China. In the game, Indy must recover an ancient and powerful artifact--a black pearl known as the Heart of the Dragon--before a German mercenary and a secret criminal society can get to it. He'll begin his adventures in modern-day China, but he'll travel the globe with the help of Mei Ying, a female character who works with Indy's employer. In his travels, he'll be able to use both a pistol and his whip, but he'll also be able to engage his enemies in close combat using the game's new brawling system, which will put more emphasis on hand-to-hand fighting and will also let Indy pick up items, such as chairs and table legs, to use as weapons.

    Why Not Just Ban Cartoons
    - Posted 4:12 PM By Squirre1
EMail News to a Friend  Printer Friendly Version    0 Comments | Add
Well yet we hear of another story of another country wanting to place Laws onto games. Germary is now looking to create a "BlackList" of games to prevent there distribution. This all stems from a teenager blowing his top and killing a large sum of people. When are people going to learn that video games are not causing these psychotic episodes.

If you can imagine all the millions if not billions of violent game releases that are out floating around, then all the millions if not billions of teens/adults playing those games. Why is it that one incident out of the middle of no-where MUST be caused by violent games. And with that said only a few said instances. Get real people.

If you have not noticed, in a large sum of Disney movies, someone gets killed, dies, or is harmed by some form of a harmful act. Now mind you this is an extreme but does that mean we should ban Disney movies and not let our kids watch them.

    Think about it:
  • Snow White - Lets kill/poison that which is better than myself
  • Beauty and the Beast - Lets kill that which is not familiar, or different
  • A Little Mermaid - They actually show the ship impaling the sea witch, Urcilla I think

How many times has Daffy Duck been shot in the face nocking his bill off. Hrmmmm, maybe a kid will shoot his brother in the face hoping he will shut up and stop screaming. Damn violent cartoons.

With that said there has to be a point we people need to take responsability for their own actions and parents to start taking responsability for their own children. Why continue to play the blame game people, when it is all that persons fault to begin with. "Oh, my daddy beat me and that made me do it."

I know I have jumped around from point to point in this perticular posting, but I am at work so it is just kind of a soap box speech. It is just starting to get real old. Ok, well anyway, now back to your regular program already in progress.

Terabyte Hard Drives On Their Way?

Are you one of those people who have a growing collection of MP3s (or pr0n) growing on your drive and find that todays 120Gig drives just aren't enough storage?! Well, fear not, for Fujitsu has the answer for your storage capacity woes. Granted they say the technology is several years from being mainstream, it still sounds tasty:
San Jose, Calif., May 08, 2002 - Fujitsu, a world leader in hard disk drive technology, has developed revolutionary new read head and media technologies that will enable hard disk drive (HDD) recording densities of up to 300 gigabits per square inch (Gb/in²). The new technologies are expected to lead to the commercial introduction within two to four years of 2.5" hard disk drives with capacities up to six times the recording density available today.
I'm thinking 4 of these drives (4 platters in each drive), stripped up in RAID 0 would ofer some uber storage capacity.

Soldier of Fortune 2 Is Golden

EMail News to a Friend  Printer Friendly Version    0 Comments | Add
Definately some nice news for your Monday, according to Activision, Raven Software's Soldier of Fortune 2 has gone gold (i.e. it'll show up at your local software store soon). Those that've been playing the multiplayer beta will definately know that this'll be one hot title and (baring any MAJOR bugs) will probably be worth buying. Here's the word from the Activision folks:
SANTA MONICA, CA – May 13, 2002 – Activision, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) and Raven Software’s Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix has gone gold and is on its way to manufacturing. The sequel to the award winning Soldier of Fortune, Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix drops players into the ranks of America’s shadow soldiers in a gritty and intense battle for survival. Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix is rated M for MATURE (17 and above) for animated blood, violence and gore.

In Soldier of Fortune II players once again assume the role of John Mullins, a military consultant working for the top-secret agency known as The Shop. In the game, players must make use of stealth, as well as firepower, to tackle a wide-range of missions including hostage rescue, intelligence gathering and search-and-destroy. To fully immerse players in the experience, Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix brings the grittiness of combat to the PC like never before with incredibly detailed skeletal animations that enable lifelike character movements and per pixel hit locations for ultra realism.
Another feature of the game is that it'll offer more than 100 unique model/skin combos, enough for any discerning player wanting to be unique among other players. Hope they offer a way to get yourself digitized in the game, now that'd be cool.

"A key feature of the vehicles in GTA3 is their variety, which is crucial in maintaining the illusion of a living city," said Paul Kurowski, vehicle designer, DMA Design. "The vehicles are designed for maximum flexibility, so for example, each vehicle exists in a range of different colors, and many have optional extras. Based on the Ghost Recon engine, The Sum of All Fears is merely the latest title in the legacy Red Storm began with Rainbow Six. (Although this title is technically its own franchise, it fits perfectly within Red Storm's family of tactical shooters). Combining tense close-quarters battle (CQB), a lethal and unforgiving damage model, plausible political agendas and the latest in military hardware (of the small arms sort at least), The Sum of All Fears is yet another challenge to the rocket-jumping Quake-hounds and double-fisted pistol bunnies of Unreal.

More goodness from PC Games. Get lots more from the full article, inlcuding new screenshots. The Sum of All Fears is due out at the end of May to coincide with the film's release.

    XBox Price Drop Tomorrow?

File this one under "Wait and See", but according to Evil Avatar, the rumor is that Microsoft will drop the price of the Xbox console to $199 starting tommorrow! There's also suppose to be a drop is a price for Amped, NFL Fever, Oddworld, and a few other titles which'll be reduced to a measly $29.99. We'll have to see what happens, I mean they're already loosing $100 a pop for each machine sold, guess they're hoping to make it up in game sales. This wouldn't be related to the fact that Sony did the same drop today for the PS2 now would it?

Infogrames, the folks who own Atari, have apparently struck a deal with another company to produce a 10-in-1 video game system based on the Atari 2600. Apparently the system will be joystick-shaped, have outputs to plug into a TV set, include games like Combat, Asteroids, Missile Command, and Adventure, and will only cost around $20! I'm thinking one will need a video card with video input so it can be hauled around to gameday, muahahaha!

    Dungeon Siege The Benchmark?

EMail News to a Friend  Printer Friendly Version    0 Comments | Add
Looking for a different way to stress test the 'ol computer? Well, the folks at Gas Powered Games have been working with the editors at ExtremeTech to develop a Dungeon Siege Benchmark (*NOTE* The benchmark requires you have Dungeon Siege already installed, it is not a stand alone product) program to test your computer and video card. Here's the word:
Microsoft today announced that ExtremeTech, the technology enthusiast's web site launched last year by Ziff Davis Media, will use the critically acclaimed action fantasy game Dungeon Siege as a key part of their benchmark suite to test the performance of the computer systems, processors, and graphics cards they review.

Dungeon Siege's unique architecture allows testing of a broad range of resources on nearly any PC system available today. The benchmark is a non-interactive demo in which the character runs through various aspects of the world. Dungeon Siege's "continuous world" technology incorporates resources from CPU, memory, and graphics during gameplay, making it a superb all-around system test for benchmarking standards.

    Announcing Soldiers of Anarchy

A glimpse of our post apocalyptic future as Simon & Schuster sees it will be released this fall. Since the game is set in the year 2013 with the apocalypse happening some ten yeas before that, let's just hope life does not actually imitate art. Soldiers of Anarchy is the story of humanity's struggle to be freed from the bonds of "new oppressors."

This real-time squad-based tactical strategy incorporates a nonlinear campaign where choices affect outcome, a slew of controllable vehicles, a packed in editor, and single and multiplayer gaming. But what is probably most promising is the fact that the engine boasts dynamic weather, day and night play, interactive environments, and still more graphical niceties that may enhance play.

No screenshots have yet been released, but the material that is available assures that the game will be available either in September or October of this year.

Expect more at the forthcoming Electronic Entertainment Expo.

Even since the first Grand Theft Auto, Rockstar's urban-action game has featured the use of humorous, reactive gangs, which add interesting AI and depth to the game. In today's feature we focus in on the gangs, and the weapons that they, and you, can use.
IGN: How does the role of the gangs differ from Grand Theft Auto II to Grand Theft Auto III?

Adam Davidson: The gangs play a far more integral role in the game in regards to the storyline. In GTA2 the jobs offered by the gangs did little to effect the environment and circumstances the player was involved in. In Grand Theft Auto III, you are not only interacting with the gangs as a unit, but instead with the individuals within the gang structure. Your dealings with them have the potential to not only effect the city you live in, but at times taking a certain job could close a door you previously felt was open. Much like real life, the bridges you have may be burned as a consequence of your actions.

Sierra on Thursday announced the development of its first expansion for Empire Earth. In development at Mad Doc Software and due in stores this fall, Empire Earth: The Art of Conquest expands the scope of the real-time strategy game into the future - allowing for planetary conquest. The add-on offers a new Space Age Epoch that covers the time period from 2200 to 2300 A.D. and adds three new single-player campaigns, unique units, buildings and special powers.

Art of Conquest includes three new single-player campaigns set in ancient Rome, the Pacific Theater and Asia in the 24th century. Each of the 21 pre-designed civilizations in the game also gains a unique special power, building or unit. One example is the Kingdom of Italy's Metallurgy power - which allows them to pay building costs with gold or iron interchangeably. Great Britain's S.A.S. unit will be able to plant demolitions and swim across water, while the United States' market building will allow that civilization to trade abundant resources for scarce ones.

Like to see giant robots stomping and flying around destroying everything in sight? Well, then catch HomeLan's interview with Rage Software about their upcoming XBox Title "Gun Metal". A snippet:
HomeLAN - Obviously Gun Metal takes at least some inspirations from Japanese anima that feature giant mecha. What are some of the development team's favorite movies and TV shows in this genre?

Phil Wilson - The ability to turn into a jet fighter was obviously inspired by Japanese anime such as Robotech & Macross. Manga such as the Gundam series is filled with adrenalin pumping battle sequences where powerful, transforming mecha go up against conventional armies. Our vision has always been to bring the same engaging themes to the Xbox.
Just from the included sceenshots, this looks as if it could be a pretty impressive game. You can find more screenshots at Rage Software's homepage.

GTA III PC comes with no multiplayer, higher resolution graphics, MP3 playback support, the option to enable or disable the PS2 blur that plagued the original, and either third-person shooter mouse and keyboard control or classic gamepad play.

Like its PS2 cousin, the PC version puts you in the role of a Liberty City thug who has been given the shaft by his partner in crime and left at the scene with a few choice bullet holes to take the rap for a bank heist. Luckily you escape the confines of the cops while in transit and make your way to a new life of crime.

Combining the elements of the RTS with the FPS, Savage pits 64 men and beasts against each other in "the most realistic fantasy battle experience to date." Other fake and fictitious fantasies had best step aside.

Eons from now, nomadic and animal abusing humans will roam the earth, never cleaning up after themselves. Selfish and wasteful, mankind will soon find itself staring down a beastly threat in the form of vicious and intelligent animals that have watched, learned, and evolved. Soon these critters strike back against the McDonald's wrapper and cigarette butt littering humans. War erupts.

Innerloop officially announced that IGI 2 is being delayed until September. The main reasons for the delay are that Innerloop want to 'ensure the Beta Test process is handled professionally and effectively' and there seems to be some problems with the netcode.

"As you know, the Beta Test has been delayed due to work on the netcode not being complete. Developing a high-quality FPS multiplayer experience is a real challenge, but one the dev team at Innerloop has taken on with a vengeance! They’ve been working flat out on the code, but some QA issues, mainly with server code, have held us back."

IGI 2 was supposed to be released next month, but this delay hopefully will ensure a better gaming experience all round.

Those of us over the age of 25 remember when David Hasselhof was more than a guy in a swimsuit. We remember him as a man who fought for the innocent, the helpless and the powerless, in a world of criminals who operate above the law.

That's right, he was Michael Knight, the human half of a duo that included the coolest car ever built -- K.I.T.T. (the Knight Industries Two-Thousand).

Davilex Games has announced their acquisition of the rights to the Knight Rider franchise to distribute a game based on the 80's television series. The following information about the game was included in their recent press release:
Based on the popular 80’s TV series Knight Rider, the game will of course feature the character Michael Knight, but more importantly, the world’s most technologically-advanced car: Knight Industries Two Thousand – better known as KITT. In the game, the player will be able to get behind the wheel of this sleek futuristic Pontiac Trans Am and put advanced features such as Turbo Boost, Ski Mode, Night Vision, Microwave Jammers, Super Pursuit or Surveillance mode to use in fighting for the innocent, the helpless and the powerless, in a world of criminals who operate above the law. In 10 action packed missions, the player will encounter well-known’s such as Devon, Bonnie, Garth, KARR and Goliath, all set in small, mid-western towns, and familiar elements of the original TV series.
Yes, you too can play in the world of "Knight Rider, a shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist. Michael Knight, a young loner on a crusade to champion the cause of the innocent, the helpless, the powerless in a world of criminals who operate above the law. One man can make a difference, Michael. Michael Knight, a lone crusader in the dangerous world... the world of the Knight Rider."

It's amazing what a company will do when their other two major competitors decide to drop THEIR systems down to $199. You go from "We will not be lowering our prices" to "Now only $149!". I've always wondered if cases like these are becuase of one hand not knowing what the other is planning or they just don't wanna leak the news too soon (i.e. milk the customer for as much extra cash as possible). Either way, what I'm hinting at is that according to this article on CNN, Nintendo of America will be cutting the price on a brand spankin' new GameCube to just $149. You gotta love console pricewars, who knew it'd be a good thing for the consumer. Word:
LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Nintendo of America announced Monday it will cut the price of its GameCube video game system by $50 to $149, the latest shot in the ongoing console war that includes Sony's PlayStation 2 and Microsoft's Xbox.

Nintendo's new price, effective Tuesday, followed drops last week in the consumer cost of its two rival systems. PlayStation 2 and Xbox were both selling for $299 before separate announcements that the companies were reducing the prices to $199.
Now if they could only get some more worthwhile titles for the system (i.e. Hurry up with Metroid!).

Sony CD + Black Marker = Copy Away

Well, this one falls into the realm of "I don't condone this, but for those who like to copy". Apparently Sony's "Key2Audio" technology (i.e. the CD copy protection that prevents you from ripping tracks) has been defeated by a simple black felt tip marker. Here's a snip from the story:
LONDON, May 20 (Reuters) - Technology buffs have cracked music publishing giant Sony Music's (Tokyo:6758.T - News) elaborate disc copy-protection technology with a decidedly low-tech method: scribbling around the rim of a disk with a felt-tip marker.

Internet newsgroups have been circulating news of the discovery for the past week, and in typical newsgroup style, users have pilloried Sony for deploying "hi-tech" copy protection that can be defeated by paying a visit to a stationery store.
Perhaps one of the funniest things about the whole incident is from an alt.music.prince.read poster (I didn't realize people still use Newsgroups) who asked "I wonder what type of copy protection will come next?Maybe they'll ban markers."

Therefore gamers that invest USDs into the game for PEDs can in-turn buy real estate with their PEDs and rent out virtual lots to vendors in hopes of making USDs. Sound familiar? OMG see the article!

No I did not get drunk and decide to post worthless news... again.. This is the real deal! In case you don't remember Valve had been putting out beta release for servers in their attempt to fix bugs. Well, to further that, brand spankin new client and server files should be ready maybe as early as this coming Wednesday! Here's a release from Mr. Erik Johnson:
We generally let the lists know when we're totally nailed down and getting ready for the release. Right now we're planning the release for next Wednesday, but if we run into any significant problems in testing we'll have to push things back a week.

We'll know on Friday if things are going to go ahead as planned, and we'll let you know here. We didn't want to get all the alarm bells ringing until it's a definite thing
In related news, Erik is kinda good looking for a computer guy, but then so is Squirre1. This is Curve, and this has been a CS moment.

Sprint, which operates the largest all-digital, all-PCS nationwide wireless network, and Midway Games announced that Midway plans to take some of its most popular games mobile as it develops wireless games for Sprint's Third-Generation (3G) PCS Phones. These 3G games will include versions of popular titles such as Defender, Kick Champion and Mahki that will be developed using the Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME).

For Sprint customers, 3G1X services are planned to launch nationwide this summer. After the launch, Sprint expects faster wireless data speeds and enhancements for existing applications and services when using a 3G enabled device. It also establishes a platform for later releases of new and more robust applications as data speeds increase including enhanced games, video and audio clips, enhanced messaging, email with attachments, high-speed Internet browsing and digital imaging. Specifically for games, 3G enables Sprint to move the game experience from the text-based games of today to graphic, full-color brand name games on 3G-enabled PCS Phones using the J2ME platform. I wonder if Mortal Kombat is in the near future as well?

Today on the national evening news they talked about censorship of internet capable computers to filter out pornography from children. It stirred up quite a conversation at the store we were at during the story. So, I am curious to hear what you all think about this topic. Is it a first ammendment right? Should we pay more attention to our children and less to filters? Should we "shut up and color"? Click on the comments link and tell us your thoughts.
